It was awesome to see the Relson Gracie/Caique Team do so well. Their where no team points for this tournament which is a shame because we would have probably won 1st. Victor Huber (Super Heavy Wt. Black Belt MONSTER) was definantly the smoothest fighter on the mats. I am glad he was willing to hop in the trenches & go to battle. His fluid technique brought him to three 1st places. I was able to go undefeated in three divisions as well. Victor & I closed out the Gi Open & both won our weights gi & no gi. I closed my weight with a student, Andrew Cobin. He handled a guy wearing a brown belt with ease (I hope that was a brown belt from judo or something). It is an honor to close an advanced division with a student when we both won by submission. Mike Q. had a great match to close his division with the gi. The crew from Ft. Hood did great winning some of the divisions. Juan showed us that he needed to be promoted after the tournament. I am not sure if he or Sawyer need to be called the giant slayer, both of them chopped down some monsters. Sawyer had a good first match against a very large kid then had to fight a "kid" with hairy legs that fought in the adult division as well that was 20 lbs heavier than Sawyer & tried his best, props to Sawyer for never backing down & always being humble. Rick Anderson won a very great match in overtime in his weight with the gi to place 1st. He also got second in the no gi. The Team Caique team represented REALLY well, it was a great pleasure to have them as part of our team, they were a huge part of the winning process. I look forward to working with them more.
I was happy to see the teams that where there to fight against us, but I wish more of the top level competitors from Texas were there to "put it on the line". I hope those that saw Victor in action want to train with him or to face him in a tournament. He is here in Texas to stay, he is now Instructing at Relson Gracie Houston (this is our new association). Take advantage. Now back to the mats, I have already had a great training session with Anrie this morning, he showed us some great moves & told us about his latest training with Helio & that he placed 3rd in the Open division of the WORLDS!!! He will be back up this next week to train with us. When Daniel & Victor are here. 3 Black Belts under 1 roof! |

| Saturday at the Battle at H-town was a real tribute to the type of Jiu Jitsu that Phil and Relson teach. Phil lead by example. Phil just Rocks!!! I wish all of his students could have witnessed his presents on and off the mats. When he wasn't fighting and winning, he was coaching or stategizing with his strudents. It just solidifies my belief that Relson Gracie Austin is the finest martial arts facility in the State of Texas today. A close second will soon be Relson Gracie Houston, headed up by Victor Huber (what a class act) After every bout, Victor showed great respect to his fallen opponents. It bowed well to his high character....With his fluid ease and burst of power, there will be no doubt he will be one of the most sought out instructors in the Houston area. I look forward to arranging some privates for Sawyer when Phil lines out his schedule. The list goes on, Rick fought great fight, winning his division in overtime against a quality opponent. Just an outstanding performance.......Andrew exhibited great skill in all of his matches, paticularlly in tapping a brown belt (seemingly with ease) great action Andrew......Mike fought his was to a gold medal, as did Dee.....Our friends from Ft Hood (FTA) represented extremely well, winning several metals, way to go John.......Sawyer had a great experience fighting some bigger and older kids and showed alot of heart winning silver......All in all it was a great tournament for team Relson Gracie/Caique.....A great job by an extraordinary group of athletes...........All exhibited quality skills and class. Congratulations!!! |
